What happens during a treatment?
Your Hot and Cold Stone massage treatment lasts for 30 or 60 minutes. It starts with a consultation before the treatment. The whole session will last for around 75 minutes. Your body is covered at all times except the area that is being worked on.
After the consultation, I invite you into the treatment room. You are asked to lie on a heated couch, then covered with a blanket to ensure you are warm, relaxed, and comfortable. The treatment will begin with Hot or Cold Stones being applied to your back. I use smooth basalt stones heated in warm water. These stones of different sizes and shapes are heated to a comfortable temperature and directly applied to the skin using a carrier oil. I use a variety of massage techniques depending on your needs, as discussed in the consultation. The hot stones promote deep relaxation and enable me to work more deeply on knotted muscles.
Once the treatment has finished, you will be given water to drink and a final consultation. In this consultation I will answer any of your queries and will give you after care advice. I also advise you to avoid alcohol and caffeine in the hours after the treatment.
Origins of Reflexology
The origins of hot and cold stone massage originated approximately 5000 years ago among the Hindus in India. The treatment was called Ayurveda they placed stones on the body to relax tense muscles and relieve pain. They were also placed on stomach to help with digestion. We use stones today either hot or cold which increases circulation to targeted areas. Stones can be coated in oil so they slide easily over the skin.
